Gnarls Barkley: The Odd Couple

An odd couple are back with The Odd Couple

Two years ago when they released “St. Elsewhere”, Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse had the world going ‘Crazy’, and now the eccentric duo are back with their seconds release “The Odd Couple.” After a couple of complete listens, I can safely say that the dynamic duo known as Gnarls Barkley is keeping it real and have come with a disc that is just as complex and enjoyable as their debut release. The CD is a mixture of slow and haunting, as well as upbeat and fun songs that will take you on a musical trip.

Cee-Lo’s deep vocals are the perfect compliment to Danger Mouse’s adventurous beats, and while this CD doesn’t have a stand out single like ‘Crazy’, I think it is more of a complete package. The first single, ‘Run’, has a crazy Motown vibe to it, and is one of those songs that will make bodies move. To add to the greatness of ‘Run’ the video accompanying it has been banned in some countries because it can potentially cause seizures. Not that someone having a seizure is a good thing, but flashy and trippy music videos are always a good time.

“The Odd Couple” may seem a bit unapproachable at first, but it is definitely a very inviting album. You can put this on in the car, or play it in the background when people are over. The mixture of upbeat jams (Run, Going On, Open Book, Blind Mary and more) and slower and darker songs (Who’s Gonna Save My Soul, Would Be Killer, A Little Better and more) will have you moving and reflecting on the lyrics at the same time. Kudos to Gnarls Barkley for dropping such a solid second release.

Release Date: March 25, 2008
