This weekend on AMC is the debut of Alexander, and to mark this occasion BEER.COM presents EPIC WEEK. All this week I'll be taking a look at some great Epic flicks.
We've talked about movies that span continents, the globe, countries, but what of the TRUE epics , those on a scale that can't be contained by planets, or solar systems. This Epic I'm speaking of can't even be contained in a single movie or a single trilogy.
That's right, spanning back as far as 1977 when the original was released, Star Wars has truly expanded the realm of what we think of as an EPIC.
Conceived and Directed by George Lucas and starring - well - everyone imaginable, the Star Wars series is known internationally as some of the best films ever. Some obsess about them, making them their lives ambition to BE part of the legacy.
The story of the '''Skywalker's, starting with young Anakin who is fated to become the scourge of the galaxy as Darth Vader. Before he falls to the dark side, the evil force that seeks to possess us all, he fathers two children - Leia and Luke''', destined to become the saviors of the galaxy.
Essentially the entire saga is the story of good versus evil - the light side versus the dark side. It spans 6 films, various wars, epic clashes, betrayals, romances, and annoying sidekicks.
If you haven't seen any of these films then you've been born in the last 5 years and shouldn't be at this site, but undoubtedly you've seen ONE of the Star Wars and know how complex and involving it is. You begin to care for the welfare of the fictional galaxy, choose the light side or the dark, and end up cheering during the credits.
Say what you will about the 'second/first trilogy, but Star Wars is as EPIC as it gets.
Here's the ORIGINAL trailer for the ORIGINALStar Wars flick:
It's an Epic series that has spawned a following, a religion, and a lifestyle. It spans galaxies, species, good, evil and it's truly a masterwork on an Epic scale.
