This weekend on AMC is the debut of Alexander, and to mark this occasion BEER.COM presents EPIC WEEK. All this week I'll be taking a look at some great Epic flicks.
The second installment in our EPIC WEEK series takes a look at a Stephen Spielberg war epic starring Tom Hanks, Edward Burns, Matt Damon, Vin Diesel, and Tom Seizmore. In case you haven't guessed yet, I'll be taking a look at the 1998 World War II masterpiece Saving Private Ryan.
The story of the proud, decorated soldier Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) and his troop, sent on a search-and-rescue mission for Private Ryan (Matt Damon), the only surviving brother from a family of soldiers.
The film opens up with THE greatest recreation of the storming of Omaha beach. Thousands of soldiers facing heavy fire from entrenched Axis soldiers. The slaughter of walking headlong into a trap disturbed many viewers, including myself. The graphicness of watching soldiers blown apart, shot, lit on fire and the epicness of this battle scene alone puts many "Epic" films to shame.

The eerie silence in parts of the scene make it that much more epic - the feeling that, amidst death and destruction, that one man can feel so very alone.
The rest of the film builds from this point on. The epic trek across a war-torn Europe to look for a needle in a haystack that might not even exist. One soldier amongst millions...
If you're looking for a flick that shows no mercy, with a scale that spans all of Europe, with amazing action scenes that convey the harsh realities of war... Saving Private Ryan is a must-see.
