Some of our readers have a long weekend coming up (Hi Canada!) so this weekend's a perfect time to get out and see a flick for those in the north. The Incredible Hulk is still in theaters, Kung Fu Panda is still going strong, and last week's Get Smart is an option, but what's NEW?
Well there's two new flicks being released this week, one for kids AND adults, and the other that would make children weep and require therapy. "Which one's which?" you may be asking... let's take a look:
Wall-E
Pixar and Disney release another disgustingly cute 3D mascot into the world with Wall-E, the little trash-collecting robot that is assigned to clean the Earth. Well it turns out our little trash-bot is a little dysfunctional, befriending a cockroach, showing human curiosity, and falling in love with a foreign robot named EVE.
Ugh. Sure it looks cute, there's some laughs in the trailer, and kids will be all over this one - but c'mon! When compared to the alternative this week (and what's already out there) this one takes the back-burner.
WANTED
Angelina + guns + graphic novel adaptation = WIN! The story of a waste-of-skin kid who, one day, finds that his estranged father was one of the world's greatest assassins blessed with skills that only a select few have, and this kid Wes, has inherited them. He's dragged into the world of killing by the smoking-hot Angelina Jolie (who has never looked better) and tutored by Morgan Freeman.
WOW. This looks incredible, action-packed, intense, with some witty moments as well. Oh, and Morgan Freeman says "motherf*cker". Which is awesome, because I just hear it over clips of penguins migrating.
No brainer this week, I'm going to go see WANTED, and I'm going to drag people to it as well because this is the edge-of-your-seat thrills that people are looking for. We've been let down by Indiana Jones, and The Hulk went 50/50 on action/story, so having a 100% kick-ass action splatterfest is duly needed.
Not to write off Wall-E though because it's bound to be the next Shrek (spun off into oblivion). Take your kids to it if you're looking to do something with them for once.
Enjoy your weekend, and May your Popcorn Always be Buttered;
