Another long season is set to begin.

There have been a couple of games played, but today is officially opening day for the baseball season. The season officially kicks off with 14 games, and it’s pretty exciting except for when you think about how long the baseball season is. Honestly, isn’t a 162 game long season a bit excessive? Most other sports are pretty interesting throughout the entire season but baseball starts off exciting, ends exciting and just kind of drags on in the middle.

To be honest, except for my two fantasy teams, I probably won’t be paying much attention to the first month or so of the MLB season. I mean March Madness just reached the final four and the NBA is about to go in to the playoffs. Being a good ol’ Canadian boy I’ll probably even pay a little attention to the NHL playoffs as they are soon approaching as well. Even then the only baseball I’ll really pay attention to will be games that I go to.

I know that every sport has die hard fans that pay attention to everything going on, but does the regular sports fan keep up with the entire MLB season? The season essentially takes up ¾ of a year, isn’t that a bit much?
